Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Birthday Suit
First Impressions: This sample size lip paint comes in the exact same packaging as the regular size products (clear bottle with black top), just miniaturized. When I first swatched the product on my hand the formula felt creamy, lightweight and looked very pigmented. This lip paint is a nude shade that definitely leans more towards a pink/neutral tone, which works well with all sorts of different skin tones. When I applied it to my lips, one application left a nice amount of the product, but in some places it was a bit streaky. So, two applications and some touch ups here and there, gave a nice full-coverage colour. It applied wet, and then set down to a matte finish, but did not completely dry down (so expect some transfer when eating or drinking). ***** |
Wear:
Since I first got my hands on this product, I have worn it out many times and received some nice compliments on it. It is such a nice nude/pink shade that pairs so well with both day and night looks. I find myself reaching for it more often these days, especially now that it is spring and it gives you an alternative to the darker and brown nude lip shades.

As for its ability as a long-wear liquid lipstick, it loses some points for me. Its formula does have the ability to last for a few hours, but I find that only applies if you are not eating or drinking often. Also since it does not dry down completely, I always find myself needing to re-apply, especially to the centre areas of my lips. Also, I would definitely recommend applying a lip balm or primer prior to using this lip paint. It is a very drying formula, meaning that it will not moisturize your lips at all, it will actually do the opposite and dry them out. If you do not moisturize or prime your lips before applying this formula, you can definitely expect it to emphasize any and all dryness/fine lines.

Yay or Nay?
Apart from the drying effects of the formula, I enjoyed the Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Birthday Suit. When applying it, the formula feels creamy and almost velvety. The colour is a beautiful matte pink/nude tone, that I feel would compliment many skin tones. Plus, it has a faint minty smell to it that gives off a refreshing and cooling effect to the lips, which I enjoy.
However, I do not feel as though this colour is anything special or unique. I feel as though this is a shade most makeup brands have widely available in their regular or liquid lipstick lines already. So with a price tag of $18 (U.S.) or $24 (CND), I feel as though you can find a dupe with the same matte colour or similar formula at a much cheaper price tag. So for me, the Birthday Suit shade of the Tarte Creamy Matte Lip Paint is a NAY!

Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Paaarty
First Impressions: At first glance, I love the colour and design of this pressed-powder blush. Once again, it comes in a similar packaging to their regular sized Amazonian Clay blushes, only smaller and without a mirror on the inside. This is a beautiful light mauve tone blush, that also has hints of soft pink that leaves a matte finish. When I swatched it for the first time, it felt smooth, and the pigment transferred very well. I only needed one swipe to get a good amount of transfer of colour to my arm. When I applied it to my face the first time, I was definitely a bit heavy handed and ended up looking very clown like. So just be aware, a little bit of blush definitely goes a long way. ***** |
Wear:
According to Tarte, the Amazonian Clay formula is beneficial for all skin types. On the Sephora website, they claim for oily skin types, "it minimizes oil in and around pores to balance skin and keep product in place,". For people with dry skin, "they will benefit from the clay's nourishing and hydrating properties, which naturally restore skin's moisture,". While people with combination skin types "can rely on its ability to zero in on skin concerns and deliver benefits to restore complexion harmony,",
Since I fall under the category of combination skin type (normal to oily), I can definitely say their claims for oily and combination skin are correct. This blush does not settle into or emphasize any of the pores around my cheeks, and is very easy to blend. It applies very well on top of my foundation, and applies equally well to my bare skin. Also, this blush has great versatility, meaning that whether you want a natural look or a dramatic flush of colour to the cheeks, this blush can do both. It has great pigmentation, that can leave a light dusting of colour, or can be built up to deepen the blushing effect.
Tarte also promotes that this blush gives a fade-free flawless finish that lasts about 12-hours. For me, it did not quite last that long, more like 7-8 hours before I began to notice the colour starting to fade. However, for a blush to last 7-8 hours before I noticed any sort of discolouration, I would still consider that a win in my books.

Yay or Nay?
I was so excited to receive both these products free from Sephora for my birthday. While both products (the lip paint and blush) are available at many different retailers, I believe these two particular shades (Paaarty and Birthday Suit) are exclusive to Sephora.
While both offer a great sample size to test out the products, I have to say my favorite among the two is definitely the blush. For me, this blush just out performed the lip paint. It did not settle into my pores, it blended beautifully, it offered wonderful pigmentation, and while it did not last 12-hours, it did last 7-8 hours before any noticeable fading. Also, since the formula is so pigmented, I really do not need to use that much product when applying it to my face. Therefore, this sample size pan should last me a long time, whereas I am constantly needing to re-apply the lip paint and the product is almost gone.
Since both products were free, I would have to definitely give them a YAY as a bundle! However, if I had to choose just one to purchase on my own, I would definitely go with the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush. Go Paaarty, Go!
