Matte Shades:
Charmer: This is the lightest shade in the palette, that I would describe as an off-white to beige colour. It is also a matte shade that would work well as a base colour on the lids. It feels soft and creamy, applies smoothly with a finger and brush, and has good pigmentation. Blends well, but I needed two applications of the shade to get an even coverage on the lids. Also, be careful when working with this shade, as too much blending can result in the pigmentation completely being sheered away. .
*****
Flower Child: This is a peachy nude matte shade with warm undertones. This shade has great blendability as it can be lightly applied to convey a light-to-medium peachy nude shade. Great as a transition colour in the crease, this neutral shade is one of the lighter colours in the palette, and provides a soft look. Similar to Charmer, it feels soft, smooth and creamy. For me I see better pigmentation in it than Charmer, and it blends so effortlessly on the lids. This shade works well with any of the eye shadows in this palette to create beautiful looks.
*****
Jetsetter: A light-to-medium brown shade, that can be built up to be darker, if desired. This warm shade is perfect as a transition shade in the crease, or as a light application on the lid as a base shade. It applied very easily and blended out wonderfully. This shade would work great on its own for a hint of colour paired with a black or brown eyeliner for a simple everyday look. As well, as the beginning shade for a brown smokey eye.
*****
Smarty Pants: As a light brown shade with orange undertones, this shade is ideal as a transition shade for everyday to more dramatic looks. While the shade has good pigmentation, it appears lighter than the previous three shades when applied to the skin. As a result, take extra care when working with this shade to avoid it sheering out.
*****
Sweetheart: In the palette, this shade looks like a beautiful pink/mauve shade. However, once you start working with the shadow it transforms into a warm peach, with subtle hints of orange. By far it has the lightest pigmentation of all the shades in the palette when applied to the lids. I used it as a transition colour in the crease, and on the lids, but unfortunately it was hard for me to blend and apply evenly. It took a few applications before I had an even distribution of colour on the eyes, that did not feel chalky, or look uneven.
*****
Rebel: This is a medium brown shade, with hints of red and orange, that leave a beautiful red-brown chocolate shade. One of my favorite colours in the whole palette, this shade is smooth, has great pigmentation and blendability. Ideal as a darker transition shade in the crease, or applied to the outer corners of the eyes, this shade will not disappoint. With such high pigmentation in this shade, a little goes a long way, so start off small and build the colour as desired.
*****
Smokeshow: With only three dark shades in this palette, Smokeshow is the darkest brown (almost black) shade. With cool undertones, it works well in smokey eye looks, applied on the eyelash line or as a liner itself. While the pigmentation of the shade was good, by far it was not the best in the palette. While it felt smooth, creamy and pigmented during a swatch, it fell short when it came to actually working with it on the eyes. It applied easily enough with my brush, but unfortunately it turned patchy, semi-transparent and uneven. In order to get a smooth dark line of colour, I had to reapply this shade a few times, taking extra care each time as it did not blend as easily as other shades. Not all bad though, it does have the potential to build up to a darker brown/black colour, just have to be patient and steady in your application.
*****
Activist: This is another dark brown (almost black) shade, but with red undertones for a warmer effect. Similar to Smokeshow, this shade would work well in smokey eye looks, as a eyelash liner or a liner itself. Unfortunately, this dark shade did not perform as well on the eyes as it did on a swatch test. Similar to the previous shade, it applied patchy and uneven, requiring more than one application in order to avoid it looking like a transparent dusting of colour on the eyelids. I am not sure why two such similar shades (Smokeshow and Activist) were included in the palette, I would have preferred another shimmery shade or perhaps a cooler-toned shade to help expand the palette's diversity.
*****
Leader: A dark chocolate brown with red undertones. This warm brown shade is a beautiful color and welcome difference than the other two dark shades (Smokeshow and Activist). However, this is by far the hardest shade to work with, at least for me. The formula of this shade must be different than the others in the palette, as it is so chalky and dry. While it has great pigmentation, it is not easy to blend and move around the lid once applied. If worked with carefully, this shade would look nice in the outer corners of the eyes, or lightly used in the crease for a dramatic look.
*****
Shimmery Shades:
Funny Girl: As the lightest shimmery shade in the palette, Funny Girl is the only light golden shade. With great pigmentation, this shade is smooth, creamy and easy to apply. This warm coloured shadow gives off a metallic look, and shows up best when applied with a wet brush that has been sprayed with a bit of water, or setting spray. Perfect for an eye lid colour, it would also work well as a pop of colour in the inner most corner of the eye, or as a highlighter underneath the outer part of the eyebrow.
*****
Rocker: As a taupe (slightly beige) brown, this frosted shade has warm undertones that give it a beautiful colour in the pan. While the formula of this shade leaves it soft, smooth and creamy, the colour does not transfer as well from the palette to the skin as I was hoping. While it has good blendability and pigmentation, I found that the colour seems to be lacking for me. Instead of a nice opaque wash of colour, it leaves a shimmery semi-transparent cast on the lids. Unfortunately, for this reason it is my least favorite shimmery shade, which is such a disappointment as it looks so pretty in the palette.
*****
Firecracker: This stunning bronze medium-to-dark brown, has warm undertones that make it perfect for both bronze and more romantic red/brown looks. It has good pigmentation, blendability and overall is nice, but yet again another warm shade to work with. This is a great shade to use on the eye lids, and I prefer to use this shade with a wet brush over dry application, however both ways will work out fine.

First Impressions: Lets start at the beginning with the packaging of the box. This is pretty much your standard E.L.F. design, but with a twist. The layout of the packaging is the same, however they have chosen to change from their standard black/white to blue/white packaging for the Aqua Beauty line. I like the change, and I think the blue/white design really helps to differentiate between their normal line and the Aqua Beauty line. ***** Also, I really like their decision to package these eye shadows in a tube with a wand, rather than a pot. All around it makes it less messy, easier to apply with the wand, and to pack in my bag for travel. ***** |
Now, E.L.F. promotes these liquid eye shadows as having a vibrant and metallic finish. Looking at the product in the bottle, I would more or less agree with that statement. However, once I swatched the product on my hand, it had more of a shimmery and iridescent look rather than metallic. As well, once I blended out the shadow with my finger, the pigment mostly disappeared and all I was left with was a faint pink shimmer.
*****
*****
Wear:
According to the E.L.F. website, they say you can wear the liquid eyes shadow alone on the eyelids or as a primer for powder shadows. So, naturally I decided to this shadow both ways.
*****
Alone:
As I wanted to try this product on its own, I did not apply any sort of primer or base to my eyelids beforehand. On its own, the shadow applied like a normal liquid eye shadow would, wet but not runny. The wand transferred a nice amount of product in one to two swipes, and it looked really pigmented. Now, because it is a liquid eye shadow, I had to move quickly to blend and adjust the product before it dried. I found using my finger tip to blend out the product the best way, as when I used a blending brush too much of the product transferred to the brush and I had to reapply more of the eye shadow to get the pigmentation back. The eye shadow dried down with a few minutes, and so long as I did not overly blend out the product the rose colour remained apparent and beautiful.
For the price, I am definitely surprised how well this liquid eye shadow worked on its own.

Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Birthday Suit
First Impressions: This sample size lip paint comes in the exact same packaging as the regular size products (clear bottle with black top), just miniaturized. When I first swatched the product on my hand the formula felt creamy, lightweight and looked very pigmented. This lip paint is a nude shade that definitely leans more towards a pink/neutral tone, which works well with all sorts of different skin tones. When I applied it to my lips, one application left a nice amount of the product, but in some places it was a bit streaky. So, two applications and some touch ups here and there, gave a nice full-coverage colour. It applied wet, and then set down to a matte finish, but did not completely dry down (so expect some transfer when eating or drinking). ***** |
Wear:
Since I first got my hands on this product, I have worn it out many times and received some nice compliments on it. It is such a nice nude/pink shade that pairs so well with both day and night looks. I find myself reaching for it more often these days, especially now that it is spring and it gives you an alternative to the darker and brown nude lip shades.

| First Impressions: Lets just take a moment to appreciate how stinking cute the packaging is for the Butter line of products by Physicians Formula. The Butter Blushes look like the cute little sisters of the bigger and more popular Butter Bronzers. It is as if these little blushes are trying their hardest to grab your attention, gain your love and then have you invite them out to play as well! I just love the look of them and really hope Physicians Formula will consider expanding the range of this line in the future. ***** |
Similar to the Butter Bronzers, there are two shades widely available in the Butter Blush line (I believe they are developing new blush shades, but not sure when they will be available in the stores). The first being called Natural Glow, that is more of a pink/gold shimmery shade. While the second, and the one I purchased, called Plum Rose, a darker pink/plum shade that is more on the matte side, but with a slight luminous effect. These blushes are suppose to give the appearance of a more natural glow, rather than a full vibrant pop of colour to the cheeks. They also have that amazing tropical coconut scent, that is noticeable but not overpowering. Honestly, the smell of these products get me every time, I just adore them.

Review
I discovered the N.Y.C. Smooth Skin Perfecting Primer when I was doing some research online about the top rated drugstore primers under $20. I wasn't impressed with the last two primers I had tried, and was on the hunt for a new one that would meet my needs and wouldn't break my bank account. This primer was mentioned in quite a few of the articles and blogs I had read about must try items at the drugstore, so I decided to give it a whirl.
*****
First Impressions:
When I first squeezed out the primer from the bottle, I noticed that it was runnier than I had first expected. More of a lotion consistency rather than a primer, and I ended up with more product than I needed. Honestly, a quarter size amount or smaller is all you really need of this product to cover the entirety of the face.
The product itself is a white colour with lots of shimmer. There is no mistaking that this primer will leave your skin with a luminous or dewy finish. When you blend out the product, the white colour appears to become transparent (more on this later), but the shimmer becomes a bit overwhelming, so much so that there is no hiding how reflective this product settles on the skin.
Now, I didn't really notice any strong scents coming from the tube after I opened it. However, once I had the product on my hand and started applying it to my face, I could immediately detect a strong odour. It is an odd smell too, almost like a combination of baby power, soap and a lotion my grandmother might have worn. At first it seems like a mild scent, but after spreading it out on my skin, it really started to build and become quite noticeable. Honestly, the more I had to smell this product, the more I grew to dislike it. After a while, the smell became so strong, that I was counting down the minutes before I could take it off.

First Impressions:
The packaging of this product alone is enough, at least for me, to be drawn to it every time I walk by a Physicians Formula display at the store. The bright and vibrant colours on the packaging grab your attention, and immediately whisk you away to the memory of a hot summer day, somewhere on a tropical island, just lying on the beach soaking up the sun. For me, that alone is enough to make me lust after this product, especially during the gloomy winter months.
For a long period of time, I have wanted to try the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer, but the price tag on this product held me back. It's not cheap by any means, especially for a drug store product. This single bronzer can run anywhere from $13.00 upwards to $21.00 depending on where you decide to purchase it from. Plus, with only two shades available in the Butter Bronzer line, I stalled buying this product as long as I could.
One day, I finally gave in! I put on my big girls pants, went down to the store and bought this product; which put me back a whopping $19.99, which was the best price tag I could find in my area for this particular bronzer.

First Impressions:
I found the Prism Naked Palette on sale at the drugstore, and it was the last one on sale for only $5.00, (regularly I believe it sells for $10.00). With more than fifty percent off the original price, I couldn't turn down that deal. Prior to this, I was on the fence about buying the Prism Palette, because it only has shimmery shades and no matte shades. I don't like using only shimmery shades on my eyes, I like to have a matte shade or two to use as a base and for blending. However, for $5.00 I thought I would give it a try.

Review
First Impressions:
I bought this at a local drugstore after searching through a few stores that were either sold out, or had a few remaining boxes that had been ripped opened and tested (gross). The packaging itself looks very neat and in the typical black smooth E.L.F. design. I was also hoping to grab the dark/darker contour palette (#83346) to test as well, but unfortunately none of the stores in my area carry it, so I was a bit disappointed I couldn't get my hands on it, but c'est la vie.
