Ratings: Looking back over the last three days, here is how we would rank the three meal-kits.

BBQ Beef Meatballs with Smashed Potatoes and BroccoliFamily Meal - Spicy - Serves 4 - Ready in 35 Minutes Our family loves a good mashed potato dinner, and my kids haven't yet met a meatball they didn't like. With that in mind I saved this recipe for last in the hopes it would be a great way to finish off our experience with the Hello Fresh box for the week. Based on the last two meals, I wasn't surprised by the fresh quality of the meat and produce, even with it being in the refrigerator for the past three days. Freshness is something I came to expect when I opened each of the individual meal-kit bags, and never once was I disappointed in what I found.
Southwestern-Style Pork Fajitas with Tomato Lime Salsa, Lime Crema and Cheddar CheeseFamily Meal - Serves 4 - Ready in 35 Minutes We decided to prepare this recipe for Taco Tuesday (well Fajita Tuesday if you want to be specific). The kids love fajitas and it isn't hard to get them to clear their plates when we have it for dinner. Once again, I was impressed with the fresh quality of the ingredients in the bag. Similar to the chicken breasts, the ground pork was raised without antibiotics, added hormones or animal by-products. The vegetables were ripe, and the red onion arrived pre-sliced which made me very happy, as I could avoid onion tears.
Almond-Crusted Chicken with Sweet Potato Maple Mash and Garlic Green Beans Family Meal - Serves 4 - Ready in 35 Minutes My son selected this recipe as our first HelloFresh meal, as he really enjoys crispy style chicken. I was impressed with the quality of the ingredients that were sent, especially the chicken breasts (skinless, boneless and raised without antibiotics, added hormones and animal by-products). None of the produce were stale or even starting to rot, all were similar in freshness to what I would have chosen in a grocery store myself.
Aside from the ingredients provided we also needed salt, pepper and a choice of oil, which the recipe assumes you will have handy at the time of cooking. Cooking instructions were straightforward, nothing confusing or overly difficult; great for anyone looking to learn how to cook.
This week I am going to be reviewing the meal-kit delivery company HelloFresh. Good friends of ours are regular subscribers to the service and kindly gave us a coupon for a free one-week trial of the meal-kit service. Now before I get into the review, let me explain what HelloFresh is all about and how it works. What is it? HelloFresh is an international meal-kit provider that originated in Germany in 2011. With offices operating all over the world, they are now one of the largest meal-kit delivery services throughout North America (United States and Canada), in addition to Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Their business model is simple, a delivery box is sent to you each week with fresh ingredients to prepare home cooked meals. Ingredients needed to cook a complete meal are individually wrapped in recyclable materials and sent directly to your home. According to their website*, their recipes take between 30-40 minutes from start to finish, but if you are in a rush you can also select recipes from their Pronto Plans that take 30 minutes or less to cook. * www.hellofresh.ca How it Works? On the HelloFresh Canada website, they offer 3 plans that include 3-4 meal-kits per week delivered to your home. *The Family Plan, comes at a cost of $10.83/serving (for 4 people), while the Pronto Plan at $13.33/serving (can feed 2-4 people), and finally the Veggie Plan at $12.33/serving (is available for 3 delivered meals in one week that can feed between 2-4 people). * www.hellofresh.ca/plans Once you have selected your plan, your desired delivery day of the week and completed the registration and payment options, you will be directed to their meal selection site where you can choose your meals for a week. They have a variety of recipes available to pick from on their website and the meal options change week-to-week. They do require you select your recipes a week in advance for assembly and delivery purposes. In addition, if you wish to cancel your subscription, or skip a week of delivery, you should do so one-week prior to your scheduled delivery day, in order to avoid being charged.
